Preparing to teach Modern Languages
Applicants for this course ideally possess:
• A passion for foreign language learning
• A second-class degree or higher in one or more foreign language or International Business Studies
• The potential to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course prior to starting training
• A minimum of three days of observation experience prior to interview and a minimum of ten days prior to starting the course

The course will explore the following issues from a subject-specific perspective:
• Pupil-centered learning and raising self-esteem
• Speaking, listening, reading and writing strategies • The role of Modern Languages in the wider curriculum
• The National Curriculum and curriculum priorities
• Lesson planning and sequences of lessons
• The use of ICT
• Meeting the needs of all pupils in the classroom
• Teaching and learning strategies and resources
• Techniques to support monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting pupil progress
• Promoting a positive climate for learning
