Course Director

Dr Paul Taylor-McCartney is responsible for the strategic co-ordination and management of the Cornwall SCITT programmes including the recruitment, assessment and accreditation of trainees. He works closely with Programme Managers in both phases to ensure there is quality and consistency across the different routes and participating institutions. He takes a lead role in the relationship between the SCITT programme, its Lead Partners and other external agencies, including the Department for Education and Ofsted.

Paul has worked in education for thirty years. He began his career teaching English and Drama in secondary schools, then progressed to a variety of leadership roles, including head of department and Assistant Principal posts. Since 2013, he has worked solely in the ITT sector, including the University of Warwick, as Head of Secondary Teacher Education. When he moved to Cornwall in 2019 to complete his PhD, he joined Cornwall SCITT and worked as an Assistant Programme Manager before securing the role of Course Director just last year. He is incredibly proud of the team, trainees and partnership schools he works with across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

 

Primary Programme Manager

Tracey Matthews is directly responsible for the delivery and quality assurance of all aspects of the course including recruitment of course personnel and trainees, organisation, administration, teaching programmes, placements and assessments. She works closely with SCITT and its Lead Partners, Bath Spa University and the Department for Education.

 

Primary Assistant Programme Manager 

Tamsin Preston is involved in all aspects of the course including monitoring and support visits to partner schools; offering personalised training when required; sitting on selection panels and contributing to the data collection and analysis required for reporting on the quality of the training course.

 

Primary Course Administrator 

Lauren Kenney-Stonehouse is responsible for managing the administration of the course.  She is the point of call concerning queries about the course, applications, interviews, pre-course information and financial matters. She also provides help and advice with the day-to-day challenges.

 

Secondary Programme Manager 

Clara White is directly responsible for the delivery and quality assurance of all aspects of the course including recruitment of course personnel and trainees, organisation, administration, teaching programmes, placements and assessments. She works closely with SCITT and its Lead Partners, Bath Spa University and the Department for Education.

Clara has worked in education in Cornwall for over 20 years; an award-winning English teacher, she has worked in a number of schools, including as Head of English & Media. Clara has proactively supported trainee teachers throughout her career, initially as a school-based mentor, before working for Cornwall SCITT in a number of roles before becoming the Secondary Programme Manager. It is a role she relishes, recognising it is a privilege to support trainees at this fundamental time in their careers, providing them with the foundations they need to flourish as teachers.

 

Secondary Assistant Programme Managers

Hannah Rendall is involved in all aspects of the course including: monitoring and support visits to partner schools; offering personalised training when required; sitting on selection panels and contributing to the data collection and analysis required for reporting on the quality of the training course.

 

Rachel Barratt is involved in all aspects of the course including: monitoring and support visits to partner schools; offering personalised training when required; sitting on selection panels and contributing to the data collection and analysis required for reporting on the quality of the training course.

Since training with Cornwall SCITT in 2010/2011, Rachel has worked in local secondary schools teaching English and Drama as well as taking on a variety of leadership roles, including Head of English. An experienced mentor and ITT Coordinator, Rachel took on the role of Deputy Subject Leader for English at Cornwall SCITT in 2019 before becoming Subject Leader in 2022. She was then appointed as Assistant Programme Manager.

 

Secondary Course Administrator 

Alexa (also known as Lex) Blake is responsible for managing the administration of the course.  She deals with queries about the course, applications, interviews, pre-course information and financial matters. She also provides  help and advice with the day-to-day challenges. She became part of the SCITT team in early 2021. With a background in PE and sports education, she brings a wealth of experience from various roles since graduating from university.

 

Lead Academic Tutor (PGCE)

Alison Machin is the Lead Academic Tutor for both phases. She designs and delivers training sessions on the PGCE content and supports the team of academic tutors. 

Subject Leaders and Trainers

Subject Leaders and Trainers provide training that focusses on how to approach a range of educational issues from the perspective of a subject specialist. Subject Studies complements the topics covered in our Education and Professional Studies Programmes, but with a particular focus on how to approach this within their subject specialism. In Secondary, Subject Leaders also provide additional support and monitoring while trainees are on placement.
