Training tomorrow's teachers, today

PGCE with Bath Spa University

We are delighted to work in partnership with Bath Spa University to award the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE).

We believe that the academic study of education informs and enhances professional practice.  With this philosophy at the centre of our ethos, we have always delivered our own PGCE programme with the support of universities. We provide advice, taught sessions and assessment for those enrolled on the programme, and Bath Spa moderates and validate the qualification.

The Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) carries 60 credits which can be accredited towards a (180 credit) Masters in Education. This qualification can facilitate promotion to leadership roles, and is increasingly a pre-requisite for senior leaders.

During the course, trainees will complete 2 assignments, focussing on current issues arising in education. Assignments will cover Pedagogy and Adaptive Teaching, with a focus on learning in a lesson and learning over a sequence of lessons, with associated reflections on practice. The assignments are strongly related to the trainee’s experiences within the classroom as well as academic reading and reviews and may rely on student observations, reflections on direct teaching experience and interviews with members of staff in their placement school during their teaching practice.

It is our expectation that all trainees undertake the PGCE as part of their course, with the exception of Employment-based routes to QTS, (including the L6 Post-Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship).

The Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) qualification is also delivered by us, as we are responsible for recommending trainees for QTS to the Department for Education and Teaching Regulations Agency.
