Preparing to teach History
Applicants for this course ideally possess:
• A passion for history
• A second-class degree (or higher) in history or politics
• In-depth knowledge of events and civilisations, including ancient history and recent history
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A minimum of three days of observation experience prior to interview and a minimum of ten days prior to starting the course
What you will cover on the course
The course will explore the following issues from a subject-specific perspective:
• Approaches to teaching The Holocaust
• The use of ICT, including iPads, in history lessons
• How to frame valid enquiry questions
• Use of local history to make lessons relevant
• Lesson planning and sequences of lessons
• The use of ICT
• Meeting the needs of all pupils in the classroom
• Teaching and learning strategies and resources
• Techniques to support monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting pupil progress
• Promoting a positive climate for learning
