Executive Steering Group

Headteachers become automatic members of the Cornwall SCITT headteachers’ group. This group fulfils a wider governance role to receive, consider and comment on internal and external quality reviews; monitor and represent the views of the schools & contribute to evaluations. The Chair and Vice-Chair of Cornwall SCITT are nominated from this group, who then become leaders of the Executive Steering Group (ESG) which comprises the Accounting Officer, Course Director, other partner headteachers across primary & secondary, Programme Managers, finance and course administrators. When a vacancy becomes available, a partnership headteacher is invited to join the Executive Steering Group (ESG), which has overall responsibility to monitor and oversee the development of SCITT strategic functions, including policy and strategic decisions, financial planning & accountability, academic policy and quality assurance. The ESG meets half-termly and represents all partnership institutions.

Partnership Groups

The Headteachers/ITT co-ordinators of Cornwall SCITT become automatic members of its (phase) Partnership Groups and exam boards, meeting regularly with course leaders to review the quality of the school-based element of the course and to plan elements of training. As exam board members, they are involved in moderating the final judgements of trainee outcomes across the partnership. All are invited to join the selection & interview panels for SCITT applicants.

Quality and Standards Committee

The purpose of the Quality and Standards Committee is to assure the Executive Steering Group that Cornwall SCITT has a rigorous and robust approach to ensuring consistency and quality throughout its programmes, practice, partnership organisations and fully complies with external regulatory bodies such as the DfE and Ofsted.

This work covers all Cornwall SCITT programmes including:

  • Primary (5 -11) and Secondary (11-16);
  • Primary and Secondary School-Based/Employment-based initial Teacher Training programmes;
  • Assessment Only (route to QTS)
  • PG Teacher Apprenticeships (route to QTS)
  • End Point Assessments for other DfE accredited providers

Members of the committee review a wide range of quality assurance measures, specifically in respect of:

Compliance

  • Compliance with regulatory bodies, including the DfE and Ofsted;
  • In relation to Safeguarding and Prevent;
  • In relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Trainee experience

  • Trainee recruitment, retention and progression;
  • Trainee engagement and the impact of student voice;
  • The mechanisms for oversight of the quality and inclusivity of the learning experience.

Curriculum

  • Programme curriculums, their quality and the contribution and impact of trainee and other support functions to the trainee experience;
  • The adequacy of resources for high quality teaching and learning experiences;
  • The effectiveness of trainee complaints procedures and the arrangements for considering appeals and mitigating circumstances.

 Partnerships 

  • University collaboration, provision and reporting;
  • Lead Partner provision (including Teaching School Hub) provision and its monitoring/moderation procedures.
